Led by Khaadimah Rahmaan, this culinary experience offers an exciting opportunity for participants to showcase their favorite dishes, learn new recipes, and immerse themselves in the holiday season.

Attendees are invited to bring their favorite sweet or savory dish to share and sample with fellow participants and collaborate to learn the recipes. They will leave with an array of recipes they can recreate at home. In addition, Rahmaan will teach how to make made-from-scratch macaroni and cheese.

A spin-off of ASC’s youth cooking program, this is the first time a CrEATE Lab class has been offered to adults. It’s the first in a series of workshops, dubbed “Golden Hour,” for ages 50 and older.

“My ideas for the ‘Golden Hour’ came from a noticeable lack of classes for our more seasoned adults,” explained Bethany Gere, public programs coordinator. “I know that my own grandparents stopped really doing things as they got older. They felt like there wasn’t anything ‘for them.’ I’m hoping to turn this into a series of different things to give our citizens something they can do to get out of the house, expand their skill set, and make some new friends along the way.”

The workshop will be at ASC’s home building at 701 S. Main St., inside the newly renovated Creative Construction Zone. The new features include a large kitchen, designed with cooking classes in mind.

“My hope is that people will find some new amazing recipes to add to their family gatherings,” Gere said. “We are asking everyone who attends to turn in one or two recipes of their favorite holiday dishes. The participants will get to take all the recipes home with them at the end of the class. Our facilitator, Khaadimah, will also be teaching one of her family’s favorite dishes.”

Khaadimah Rahmaan is prep cook at Big Orange: Midtown in Little Rock and a former teacher. She was the head cook at Mohammed Schools. She attended culinary school at Pulaski Technical College.

The cost is $20 for ASC members and $25 for nonmembers. Register here or by calling 870-536-3375. For more information about this class or Golden Hour programming, contact Gere at bgere@asc701.org.

“For future Golden Hour classes, I’m looking into doing bingo nights with prizes, movement and flexibility classes, and technology classes,” Gere said. “And as always, I’m always open to suggestions from our class-goers and the community.”
