The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas invites the best singing and dancing talent in the region to bring holiday cheer to its variety show, Razzle Dazzle: A Holiday Spectacular.

Open auditions are set for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, in the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater at ASC, 701 S. Main St. in Pine Bluff.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, and Saturday, Dec. 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3.

Auditions are open to ages 16 and older. Rehearsals begin in mid-October. Performers must be available for all performances. Auditioners are to register here.

Those auditioning to sing are asked to prepare 1-2 minutes of any song showcasing their vocal abilities. The song is not required to be holiday-themed. Those auditioning to dance are asked to arrive at 7:45 p.m. No preparation is required for dancers. Please arrive in comfortable clothing and shoes.

Theater programs manager Lindsey Collins will direct.

Razzle Dazzle offers an extra opportunity for local talent to shine, Collins says.

“When we put on musicals, a lot of times we’re only able to cast a small number of people,” Collins says. “With Razzle Dazzle, we get to showcase more of the talented people in our community. They get to sing what they’re interested in and comfortable with. It’s a totally different experience for the performer; it’s an exciting experience.”

Each Razzle Dazzle presents a different theme; this year’s show is the first to feature a holiday theme, with popular winter tunes.

Bethany Gere

“In previous years, we have received many requests for a holiday-themed Razzle Dazzle,” Collins explains. “We try to listen to what our patrons ask us for, and this is one we can certainly deliver on.”

Grace ColEman

Public programs coordinator Bethany Gere will serve alongside Collins as co-director and music director. Grace Coleman will choreograph.

Gere emphasizes how unique Razzle Dazzle is for the cast. “You’re not having to put a character on; performers get to put a lot of themselves on stage.”

“At the end of the day, this is such a fun show to be a part of,” says Collins. “It’s a celebration of the ARTx3 campus; it’s a celebration of the holidays; and it’s a fundraiser! Everything that we make from this event goes right back into our programming.”

Proceeds from this production will benefit ASC’s youth theater productions. The production is sponsored by Simmons Bank.

In addition to performers, those interested in volunteering on the crew are encouraged to contact Collins at lcollins@asc701.org for more information.
